MADERA, California (May 13, 2016) — At least one person has died when a pickup truck was struck by an Amtrak train Friday afternoon at Road 33 1/2 and Avenue 10, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The fatal crash took place about 12:31 p.m. today at the intersection. There were two occupants in the pickup truck, but it’s not stated in the report why the truck was on the tracks. At last one person was to be airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital. The train engineer was injured in the crash and taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
The CHP is heading up an investigation into the crash.
