Ma Duarte Killed; Amy Mechhi and Ella Vermeulen Hurt in Highway 41 Crash
O’NEALS, Calif. (January 10, 2018) — Ma Duarte, 44, of Madera, died and a woman and her teenage passenger, were injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 41, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported on the northbound Highway 41 at 7:35 a.m. Duarte had been traveling northbound on Highway 41 in a 2008 Chevrolet when traffic up ahead began slowing down and stopping. When Duarte braked, she lost control and skidded into the path of the 2017 Ford driven by Mecchi. The Chevrolet overturned in the southbound lane.
Ma Duarte was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and suffered major injuries in the crash. She died at the scene.
Meanwhile, Amy Mecchi, 35, of Coarsegold, suffered minor injuries. Ella Vermeulen, 16, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Valley Children’s Hospital.
Police closed down Highway 41, just north of Road 200 to investigate what happened.

Police are reviewing the facts of this accident and will officially determine fault. At this time, it appears the driver in the Chevrolet may have caused the collision when she lost control of her vehicle and collided with the other motorist.
