2 Killed in Chatsworth Hit and Run Identified
CHATSWORTH, Calif. (Jan. 6, 2021) – Ana Hernandez, 37, and Matthew Zink, 58, both died Tuesday night when a driver struck them while riding bicycles on Plummer Street and fled the scene.
The deadly, hit-and-run bicycle accident happened about 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner identified the man and the woman after notifying relatives of the fatal collision.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that Ana Hernandez and Matthew Zink were riding bicycles westbound on Plummer Street prior to the collision.
A driver in a 2006 red Toyota Tacoma traveling in the same direction crashed into the pair. Both bicycle riders were thrown off their bikes onto the roadway where they suffered fatal injuries. Both Hernandez and Zink were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Nelson Rodriguez, 58, of Chatsworth, allegedly fled the scene. He eventually came to a stop after he plowed into a wall near the intersection of Knapp and Desoto. Paramedics transported the driver to a hospital with minor injuries. Later, police arrested him in connection with the deaths of Zink and Hernandez.
Nelson Rodriguez is held in lieu of a $4 million bond.
