Anabel Zamora, Mayra Garcia Killed in Crash on Highway 23 in Moorpark
MOORPARK, Calif. (March 5, 2026) — Anabel Zamora, 41, and Mayra Garcia, 21, both of Los Angeles, were killed in a head-on collision off Highway 23 in Moorpark on Feb. 28, authorities said.
The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office said both women died of multiple blunt force injuries. Their deaths were ruled accidental.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Ryan Ayers, Zamora was driving a Lexus northbound on Highway 23 around 2 p.m. with two passengers when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound crossed over the center median and entered opposing traffic.
The pickup, which was carrying a passenger, struck Zamora’s vehicle head-on, Ayers said. Zamora died at the scene.
The woman’s family has created a GoFundMe to cover her funeral expenses and support her daughter Caroline who survived the crash with major injuries.
“She (Caroline) will require extensive medical care and a long recovery ahead,” Jesse Lomeli, creator of the fundraiser. “But like her mother, Caroline is a fighter. We believe she will overcome this and continue to live the dreams her mother had for her.”
Meanwhile, Mayra Garcia was a passenger in the Silverado and was ejected during the collision. Sadly, she also died as a result of her injuries, authorities said.
Two additional occupants sustained major injuries, while another person suffered minor injuries, according to CHP officials.
Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but speed appears to have contributed, Ayers said.
No arrests have been made. However, the CHP’s Moorpark-area office has submitted a case to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office recommending charges against the driver of the pickup. Potential charges have not yet been announced.
