Woman Killed; Wrong-Way Driver Arrested
VAN NUYS, Calif. (July 17, 2023) – Analeyda Rivas, 22, died early Sunday in a collision with an alleged wrong-way driver at Saticoy Street and Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys.
The suspected DUI driver allegedly crashed head-on into a vehicle occupied by the young woman and others around 3:18 a.m. on July 16th, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lanes of Saticoy Street, police said.
Analeyda Rivas was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle hit by the suspect, NBC News reports. The vehicle also collided with a power pole and the young woman died at the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics responded to the scene and rushed three people including a child to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
The Los Angeles Police Department is heading up the investigation into the crash. Finally, police arrested the driver of the wrong-way vehicle on suspicion of DUI.
