Andrew Irby Suffers Major Injury in Crash on Bodega Ave
PETALUMA, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2018) — Andrew Irby, 31, of Oakland, was critically injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday that resulted in him losing his leg.
The Oakland man was struck by a car yesterday about 2 p.m. on Bodega Avenue, just west of Thompson Lane. Police say the motorcycle rider was heading eastbound on Bodega when his bike collided with a Ford C-MAX driven by Jacki Crawford. Crawford, a Sonoma County code enforcement officer, was about to turn left into a private driveway when the motorcycle collided with the left side of the vehicle as it was turning.
Irby suffered major injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Police are investigating whether or not speed was a factor and if the motorcycle crossed over double yellow lines to pass the other vehicle.
There were no other injuries reported.
Petaluma Crash Investigation
A full investigation into what caused this collision is underway. Police will piece together evidence and speak with witnesses to determine fault.
We extend our heartfelt prayers to the young man who was severely injured.
There are many steps that should be taken following a collision involving serious injuries. A police report will be necessary to file an insurance claim against the at-fault driver who caused the collision. However, it’s important to note that many insurance companies will fight these claims or offer far less than a person is owed.
