Andrew Lopez, 41, Killed in Winchester Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 79
WINCHESTER, CA (May 7, 2022) – Andrew Lopez was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 79 in Winchester.
The coroner’s office identified the 41-year-old Menifee man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place late last month.
The incident happened when Andrew Lopez was walking in the northbound traffic lane of Highway 79, just south of Scott Road, in Winchester.
The California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, a vehicle struck him. The Patch and My News LA wrote that the accident occurred on April 30 at about 10:30 p.m.
Pedestrian Hit by Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the pedestrian down on the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel soon pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid to the man and fled the area.
Officers described the car as a 2016 Toyota Rav4. They tracked the hit-and-run suspect, a 71-year-old Temecula man, who left Andrew Lopez in the roadway and questioned him.
The cause of the Winchester hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
