1 Dead; 2 Injured in Suspected DUI Crash on Highway 101 in Ventura County
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (July 12, 2021) — Andrew Felix Mejia, 26, of Moorpark, died early Monday in a Highway 101 collision in Ventura County.
The fatal crash happened about 3:30 a.m. on Monday, July 12th in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 at the Main Street off-ramp, according to the Ventura County Star.
The young man was one of three occupants in a 2016 Infinity Q50 sedan. The 25-year-old driver and a 23-year-old front-seat passenger both suffered major injuries in the collision.
The vehicle went off the road and overturned down a dirt embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving felony gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Meanwhile, backseat passenger, Andrew Felix Mejia, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Also, paramedics transported both the surviving driver and passenger by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center, according to the CHP’s Ventura office. Both men were also from Moorpark, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
