Drunk Driver Fatally Hits Highway Worker on SR-28
Carnelian Bay, CA (September 27, 2022) – Police arrested 36-year-old Andrew Stephen Phillips in relation to a deadly pedestrian accident that occurred on Highway 28.
The Sacramento Bee News reported the victim was working at a construction zone along the highway near Sahara Drive. At approximately 10:44 p.m., a black 2021 Subaru Forester entered the construction zone and struck the traffic control worker. The force from the impact propelled the victim in a westerly direction on the highway.
When emergency crews arrived at the location, they found the worker unconscious. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the victim but they sadly succumbed to their injuries and died.
DUI Suspect Arrested After Deadly Accident in Carnelian Bay
The article published online mentioned the Subaru came to a rest after slamming into a dump truck and excavator at the construction site. Responding police officers found the driver partially trapped in the wreckage. During the investigation process, authorities determined the man driving the Subaru was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Given that, officers arrested Andrew Stephen Phillips; and booked him into Auburn Jail and faces felony charges of vehicular manslaughter and DUI.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
