Pedestrian Struck on 580 Freeway
DUBLIN (June 3, 2018) – A 36-year-old Castro Valley man identified as Andrew Warhurst was killed early Saturday morning when he was struck by a driver on the Interstate 580 Freeway, Alameda County Coroner’s Office officials.
There were two collisions that took place about 12:15 a.m. First, Warhurst was a passenger in a Chevy Aveo that crashed into a median on the freeway at Santa Rita Road. Shortly after the collision, the man got out of the wreckage.
He and the 21-year-old Pleasanton woman driving the Aveo, got out of their vehicle to inspect the damage when a passing motorist in a Honda CRV struck him.
The man suffered major injuries and died at the scene following the incident. The young woman was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
She was also later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
Police are investigating both of these two collisions. There are certainly many questions regarding liability. The woman driving the first vehicle is facing DUI charges for allegedly causing the first collision. We do not know, however, if the second driver is at fault for causing this man’s death. One or both of these drivers could be responsible for this man’s death.
We offer our prayers to all those affected by this collision.
