Angel Gutierrez, 50, Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in Madera County
MADERA COUNTY (November 14, 2018) – A pedestrian was killed after an alleged hit-and-run accident along Avenue 21 last month on October 22, according to The Madera Tribune and ABC 30 News.
The victim has been identified as 50-year old Angel Gutierrez, of Madera. Officials believed he might have been homeless.
As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said Gutierrez was apparently either crossing Avenue 21 or standing in the lane when he was struck by a 2018 Mitsubishi Fuso box truck.
Gutierrez was thrown off the roadway as a result of the crash. He was found dead by a passing motorist.
Suspect ID’d as Pablo Tabarez, 67
CHP affirmed that the driver of the truck, 67-year-old Pablo Ovando Tabarez, was driving from the Bay Area to Oakhurst when hit Gutierrez. The collision took place in the morning, just east of Avenue 20 1/2.
Tabarez did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. The San Jose man was later arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
He was taken to the Madera County jail where he was reportedly released after posting $100,000 bail.
