Angelica Gonzalez, 30, Killed in Crash at Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue
GARDENA, CA (September 2, 2020) – A woman killed after a hit-and-run crash near Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue on Saturday has been identified.
According to reports by The Daily Breeze and KTLA, officials said 30-year-old Angelica Gonzalez died following the accident on August 29.
Police determined that Gonzalez was driving a Nissan Sentra when a 2018 Dodge Ram struck her near the intersection of Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and rushed Gonzalez to Harbor UCLA Medical Center for treatment. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver ID’d as Isaiah Lono, 19
The operator of the Dodge, 19-year-old Isaiah Lono, allegedly stole the pickup outside of an auto shop prior to the wreck at about 11:50 a.m.
Police affirmed that Lono, also known as Isaiah Portillo, then sped and slammed into several other vehicles in the area. He ran through a red light and ultimately hit the Nissan.
Lono exited the vehicle and ran away. Officers found him and determined he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at that time. However, they did not charge him with that crime.
Authorities claimed that the suspect was charged with murder, fleeing from the scene of a fatal collision, grand theft and three misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage.
They also charged him with one count of driving on a suspended or revoked license with a bail set at $2 million. Records showed he was booked at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
