Angelica Varon, 38, ID’d as Suspect in Watsonville Fatal DUI Crash
WATSONVILLE, CA (March 5, 2023) – Authorities detained Angelica Varon after a fatal DUI crash at Holohan and Grimmer roads in Watsonville.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 38-year-old Watsonville woman was under the influence when the collision occurred on Saturday.
The incident happened when Angelica Varon was driving a 2007 Volvo XC90 south on Holohan Road, approaching Grimmer Road, in Watsonville. At the same time, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra was going north.
CHP said Angelica Varon then crossed the solid double yellow lines. In the process, she struck the Hyundai head-on at the intersection.
1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in Wreck
The KION News and KTVU News wrote that the wreck took place on March 4 at about 10:22 p.m. The 26-year-old driver of the Elantra, Watsonville resident Breanna Romero, died at the scene.
Her passenger, Kianna Hughes, survived the accident with serious injuries. Paramedics rushed the 25-year-old Moreno Valley woman to the Natividad Hospital for treatment.
Angelica Varon and her passenger, 25-year-old Jesus Rocha Ayala, sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Medical personnel took the suspect to the same hospital for further aid.
The Watsonville man brought himself to the Watsonville Community Hospital. Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Angelica Varon for felony DUI.
Officers forced the corner of Holohan and Grimmer roads to shut down for hours following the wreck. The Watsonville DUI crash is still under investigation.
