Woman, 75, Died in Crash with Alleged DUI Driver
POMONA, Calif. (May 2, 2024) – Ann Wesson Williams, 75, and Robert Lopez, 45, both died Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash at Reservoir Street and Ninth Street in Pomona.
The deadly collision occurred at about 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, April 20th at the Pomona intersection, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Robert Lopez was allegedly driving at high speed in a residential area when he drove through a red traffic light before hitting the Ann Wesson Williams’ vehicle, according to a report by CBS News. He also knocked over a light pole and crashed into a house.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Robert Lopez dead at the scene, but Ann Wesson Williams was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The woman had just left an event in Pomona that was raising money to help the homeless, according to the family’s GoFundMe account.
“The person that hit (my mother), Robert Lopez was under the influence and driving at a very high speed,” the victim’s daughter Frenae Williams said.
The woman’s daughter told CBS News she is survived by four children and six grandchildren. Before she retired she worked for many years as a criminal counselor at the Chino State Prison.
Meanwhile, the Pomona Police Dept. is heading up the investigation and asking witnesses or anyone with evidence such as surveillance footage to call them at 909-802-7741 or 909-620-2048.
