
MERCED, Calif. (March 7, 2023) — Anthony Carrasco, 35, has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after he allegedly caused a crash on Highway 99 that killed a big rig truck driver in Merced.
The traffic accident occurred about 11:20 a.m. on Monday, March 6th, just north of O Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Anthony Carrasco, 35, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV when he reportedly tried to pass the semi-truck on a narrow shoulder of Highway 99, ABC 30 Action News reports. The Tahoe became stuck between the big rig and guard rail and it forced the truck to jackknife and overturn, police said.
The 55-year-old Sacramento man driving the truck became trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, Anthony Carrasco survived unharmed.
Police arrested him on felony DUI charges and he was booked in the Merced County Jail.
Finally, the Merced collision on Highway 99 remains under investigation.
