PALM SPRINGS, California (June 8, 2015) — Anthony Dwayne Reid, 43, of Palm Springs died Sunday afternoon two weeks after he was critically burned in a gas explosion at a Palm Springs resort on Warm Springs Drive, a San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner report said.
The explosion took place at the Vista Grande Resort in the 500 block of Warm Sands Drive. A gas valve that had been left open somehow ignited and exploded, critically injuring Reid who was in a nearby room and injuring two other people at the resort.
Reid suffered burns to nearly all of his body after the 5 p.m. blast on June 8, 2015 . Paramedics rushed him to Desert Regional Medical Center where he was initially treated, but he was later airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s Burn Center in Colton for more extensive treatment.
The coroner reported that Reid died of his injuries at 3:52 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.
Both the Palm Springs Police and Fire Departments are investigating the incident and will determine liability for his death.
