TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2020) — Anthony Leon was among several people aboard a transit bus who were injured Tuesday morning when a car crashed into it on Highway 99 at Gerber Road.
Police say a 17-year-old Los Molinos boy was driving eastbound on Gerber Road in a 1990 Ford Mustang when he allegedly pulled out into the path of the 2017 Ford E-450 TRAX (Tehama County) transit bus. The northbound bus, driven by Steven Darrough, 68, of Red Bluff, slammed into the side of the Mustang and both the driver and his 14-year-old passenger were ejected. Neither one of them were wearing seatbelts, police said.
The crash was reported at 7:51 a.m. to the California Highway Patrol.
Mary Ann Griffin, 74, and Ronnie Allemand, 41, both of Corning, and Anthony Leon, 66, of Red Bluff, were among bus passengers who were injured in the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol. They all suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center.
The left-hand turn lane was blocked and the bus wound up in a nearby field after the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
The involved Ford suffered major front-end damage in the collision.
Paramedics also transported the 14-year-old Gerber boy to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital and the 17-year-old Los Molinos boy was taken to Mercy Medical Center. Both suffered major injuries in the crash.
