One Killed in 55 Freeway 2-Vehicle Crash in Tustin
TUSTIN, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2021) – Police arrested driver Anthony Robles after his female passenger died Tuesday morning in a car accident on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Tustin.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of the freeway about 2:10 a.m. near the Interstate 5 Freeway connector, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Anthony Robles, 27, of Rowland Heights, was driving a BMW sedan south on the 55 in the Tustin area. The car rear-ended a Lexus and caused that vehicle to overturn on the freeway. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Anaheim woman who was a passenger in the BMW died at the crash scene.
Also, the 22-year-old Newport Beach woman driving the Lexus was hospitalized for moderate injuries.
Anthony Robles Arrested on DUI Charges
Anthony Robles was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the CHP said. He was also transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
Authorities closed down the southbound lanes of the Costa Mesa Freeway at Fourth Street to conduct their investigation.
Meanwhile, police redirected traffic off the freeway. Also, the Fourth Street on-ramp to enter the freeway was blocked.
Witnesses are encouraged to reach out to police as they continue to investigate this horrible crash.
