Motorcyclists Hurt in Collision on Highway 121 in Napa
NAPA, California (May 23, 2019) – Two motorcyclists were injured Wednesday morning in a crash involving four motorists on Highway 121.
The two motorcycle riders, Anthony Silva, 27, of Modesto, and Patrick Heeneman, 31, of Brentwood, were approaching an ascending right curve on Highway 121 at the same time as two cars were approaching in the opposite direction. Silva was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson behind another motorcycle rider as part of a group, and Heeneman was following a short distance behind them.
Police say that Silva veered across the double yellow lines as he drove through the curve and collided with the driver’s side of a 2018 Ford driven by Mikael Peters, 46, of Virginia. The bike struck the Ford’s mirror and scraped along the left side of the car before it got to the back tire and the bike overturned. The bike slid under the bumper of a 2015 GMC driven by James Reed, 70, of Napa on the southbound lane and the motorcyclist was in the northbound lane.
Meanwhile, Heeneman laid his bike down in the traffic lane to avoid crashing into the other motorcycle rider. It’s unknown if there were injuries among the other involved drivers in this collision.
The California Highway Patrol is heading up the investigation into the crash and liability.
