Developmentally Disabled Woman, 21, Allegedly Raped in San Jose
SAN JOSE (July 25, 2017) – A Calero High School employee was arrested Monday on suspicion of raping a developmentally disabled woman, according to The Mercury News.
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office identified the accused as 42-year-old Anthony Valerio.
As per the article, the parents of the victim reported to a patrol deputy that their 21-year-old daughter had been possibly sexually assaulted.
The investigation led the authorities to name the suspect as Valerio. He reportedly met the woman when the victim was a student at the school.
The report did not specify where the alleged rape took place.
Life Coach Suspected of Sexually Assaulting Developmentally Disabled Woman
After his arrest, Valerio was booked into the Santa Clara County jail on one sexual-assault count with a bail set $100,000. He worked as a life coach for students of Calero High School, an alternative high school in the East Side Union High School District.
The suspect stopped showing up to work in September 2016 after the allegations against him emerged in August. He was formally terminated in October.
Developmentally disabled people cannot protect and defend themselves, mentally or physically, from possible sexual harassments and assaults. In this situation, the victim being described as a developmentally disabled woman, was allegedly raped by her life coach who should supposedly help her, not ruin her. It is utterly immoral and sickening that some individuals are engaged in such cases, regardless of the victims’ gender, age, physical or psychological state. Any suspect who is proven guilty of this kind of heinous crime is expected to be punished by law.
The victims and their families will have the right to file a lawsuit against the at-fault parties. We at Johnson Attorneys Group know that coming out as victims of sexual harassments and assaults is extremely difficult and traumatic, however, we believe that you should fight for your rights.
