Investigators reported a white Freightliner truck loaded with bundles of wooden tree stakes was traveling southbound on Road 9 and entered the intersection with Highway 152.
First, the truck stopped at a stop sign before the driver entered the intersection amid low visibility. That’s when the truck was first hit by an oncoming BMW 325. The westbound BMW was in the No. 1 lane and traveling at high speed and crashed into the left-rear trailer of the semi-truck.
Upon impact, the wood tree stakes tumbled onto the roadway and Antonio Alcantara’s 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander crashed into the debris in the roadway. The impact caused the Mitsubishi’s driver to lose control and he sustained major injuries in the crash. Unfortunately, he later died from those injuries.
Liability for the collision remains under investigation.
