Arbuckle Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Interstate 5 Near Greenbay Road

1 Killed, 3 Injured in Arbuckle Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 5 Near Greenbay Road

COLUSA COUNTY, CA (August 2, 2021) – A wrong-way crash killed one person and injured several others on the Interstate 5 in Arbuckle.

According to an article published by the FOX 40 News, the tragic accident took place on Sunday night. Officers reported the wreck on August 1 at around 9:15 p.m.

The incident began when a Prius was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 in Arbuckle. At the same time, a Dodge minivan was going north at about 65 mph.

The California Highway Patrol said the Prius then slammed head-on into the Dodge near Greenbay Road. The passenger of the Prius, a  74-year-old Washington woman, died as a result of the collision.

2 Cars Collide Head-On

The wrong-way motorist, a 76-year-old Washington man, and the 40-year-old man riding as the passenger of a minivan sustained major injuries. The 41-year-old woman driving the Dodge suffered moderate injuries upon impact.

Paramedics took the elderly driver to a hospital in Chico for treatment. Medical personnel rushed the occupants of the van to a hospital in Marysville for further aid.

The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP forced the northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 for about 90 minutes to shut down following the wreck.

The cause of the fatal Arbuckle wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
