Armando Recendis-Alanis Killed in Santa Maria Hit-and-Run Accident; Maria Lopez Arrested
SANTA MARIA (October 24, 2017) – A bicyclist who died after an alleged hit-and-run crash at Broadway and Williams Street over the weekend has been identified as 74-year-old Armando Recendis-Alanis, according to Santa Maria Times.
The Santa Maria man is the victim of the tragic incident which took place just after 5 p.m. on October 21.
As per the article, police said Recendis-Alanis was found unconscious in the roadway. Witnesses told the officials that Recendis-Alanis was riding his bicycle east on Williams Street when he was struck by a car headed south on Broadway.
The rider was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver involved did not stop to render aid and left the scene. The suspect, 42-year-old Maria Augustina Abolino Lopez, then abandoned her car in a nearby neighborhood and fled on foot. She was arrested at her home and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on felony hit-and-run charges with a bail set at $50,000.
Lopez was initially identified by the police as Maria Agustina Apolonioangel. She is from Santa Maria.
