Motorcyclist Arthur Appleby, 55, Killed in Crash on Highway 138
PALMDALE (October 12, 2018) – A motorcyclist was killed after a traffic collision along Highway 138 on Thursday evening, according to The Antelope Valley Times and The Signal.
The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Arthur Appleby, of Lancaster.
As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said 23-year-old Abigail Lua was driving a Dodge Duranong east on Highway 138 when for an unknown she crossed over the double yellow lines.
The Palmdale woman then collided with Appleby who was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on the highway at the time. The accident took place at around 7:15 p.m. near 245th Street West.

CHP affirmed that Appleby was ejected from his bike and went over a concrete bridge wall. He then struck either a metal or barbed wire fence on the northeast dirt shoulder near the California Aqueduct.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Lua swerved to the left and then back to the right where she drove off the south shoulder.
The Durango plunged down an embankment, just east of the Aqueduct. Lua was transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center to be treated for major injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
