
Man, 81, Dies in Head-on Collision Involving DUI Suspect
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — Arthur Loring Schoenstadt, 81, of Salinas, died in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon on Reservation Road, just south of East Garrison Drive in Monterey County.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash after it was reported at 5:05 p.m. on Oct. 7th between a white Acura and a grey Toyota, according to KSBW Action News.
The Toyota was traveling north on Reservation Road and a white Acura was heading in the opposite direction on the southbound side.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Acura crossed into northbound lanes directly into the path of the oncoming Toyota. The two vehicles crashed head-on and both had major damage.
Unfortunately, the 81-year-old Salinas man driving the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene and was later identified as Arthur Loring Schoenstadt, the report said.
The driver of the Acura was transported to Natividad Medical Center with undisclosed injuries. Also, police investigating the crash suspect the Acura driver was DUI. Once the driver is released from the hospital, they are to be booked into Monterey County Jail and could face other charges including vehicular manslaughter.
