Gregorio Gomez, 89, Killed; 2 Injured in Highway 111 Crash
HERBER, Calif. (May 10, 2022) – Ashley Castillo, 40, and Elena Gomez, 84, both suffered injuries in a head-on crash early Sunday on Highway 111 that killed Gregorio Gomez, 89.
Elena Gomez was traveling in a red sedan driven by Gregorio Gomez, 89, when for unknown reasons they veered into the path of a white car driven by Ashley Castillo.
The two vehicles collided head-on, just south of Herber Road and north of Calexico, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A few minutes later, a vehicle driven by Carlos Jimenez crashed into Ashley Castillo’s car. She became trapped inside the car due to major front-end damage, but responding Calexico firefighters extricated her and transported her by air ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
Meanwhile, Elena Gomez suffered moderate injuries and was also airlifted by REACH Air to Desert Regional Medical Center.
Unfortunately, Gregorio Gomez suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Finally, Carlos Jimenez did not report any injuries at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation by the CHP.
