2 Adults Killed, Toddler Critically Injured
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (June 22, 2023) — Ashley Godinez, 37, of Wilton, is one of two people who died Tuesday in a head-on collision on Dillard Road, just south of Elk Grove.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. on June 20th, east of Highway 99, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Wilton woman was traveling with her toddler in a white 2016 Nissan Altima, CBS News reports. They were heading eastbound on Dillard Road. Meanwhile, A 27-year-old Ukiah man in a white 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling in the opposite direction westbound on Dillard Road.
Police were told by witnesses that the man driving the Rogue was allegedly making unsafe passing maneuvers and following too close to other motorists. Investigators say the Rogue made one such turning movement into the path of Ashley Godinez and she attempted to avoid the crash, but both vehicles collided head-on.
Child Hospitalized Major Injuries
The two drivers both died at the scene and the toddler suffered major injuries. Paramedics responded and rushed the 2-year-old to a hospital for further treatment.
The Sacramento County Sheriff Coroner identified Ashley Godinez, but the second driver has not yet been identified pending notification of his next-of-kin.
Authorities noted the driver of the Rogue was not wearing his seatbelt. Also, they are working to determine if the man was under the influence of alcohol.
