Pedestrian Killed in Atascadero DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 41
ATASCADERO, CA (September 20, 2021) – A DUI hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian and injured several car occupants on Highway 41 in Atascadero.
According to The Tribune and Paso Robles Daily News, the tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening. Officers reported the collision at around 7:39 p.m.
The incident happened on September 19 when a Jeep was going east on Highway 41 near Santa Rosa Road in Atascadero. The car crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into another vehicle.
Atascadero police affirmed that the Jeep also struck a male pedestrian on Highway 41. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that the man later died.
Car Occupants Injured in Crash
The occupants of the second car sustained moderate to minor injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel took them to the hospital for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the Jeep did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
They soon located the man and determined that he was under the influence when he hit the pedestrian and the other vehicle. Police arrested him for DUI and hit-and-run.
Officers forced a stretch of Highway 41 to shut down for hours following the crash. The fatal Atascadero DUI hit-and-run collision is still under investigation.
