Audelio Tapia, 68, Killed in San Jose Hit-and-Run Near White and Coldwater
SAN JOSE, CA (March 3, 2022) – Audelio Tapia was killed after a hit-and-run crash near White Road and Coldwater Drive in San Jose.
The coroner’s office identified the 68-year-old San Jose man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Tuesday.
The incident happened when Audelio Esquivel Tapia was standing next to the driver’s-side door of a car parked along the curb of South White Road in San Jose. At the same time, a vehicle was going north.
Police said for an unknown reason the driver hit him near the intersection with Coldwater Drive, north of Sylvan Drive.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and then found the pedestrian down on the ground. He ended up suffering from life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
Driver Hits Victim, Flees Scene
Medical personnel soon took the victim to a hospital, where he died. The Mercury News and KTVU News wrote that the accident occurred on March 2 at about 4:27 p.m. near the Lake Cunningham Park.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the man and fled the area. They described the car as a 2015-2017 white Ford F-150 or Ranger, with a white work box over the bed.
Officers are still searching for the hit-and-run driver who left Audelio Tapia in the roadway. Police forced northbound lanes of South White Road to shut down from Cunningham Avenue to Marten Avenue after the collision.
The cause of the San Jose hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 408-277-4654.
