DUI Driver Austin Matsler-David, 21, Kills Man in Petaluma Head-On Crash
PETALUMA, CA (April 18, 2021) – Authorities detained Austin Matsler-David after a fatal DUI crash along Stony Point Road in Petaluma.
Police determined that the 21-year-old Santa Rosa man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Saturday night.
The incident happened on April 17 when Austin Matsler-David was driving a white Honda Civic southbound on Stony Point Road in Petaluma. At the same time, a white Ford F-150 was going north.
Police said Austin Matsler-David crossed the center line and then slammed head-on into the pickup truck. The Ford apparently rolled multiple times, just north of Denman Road, upon impact.
Car Collision on Stony Point Road
The driver of the pickup, a 52-year-old man, ended ejected from his car as a result of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. The Press Democrat and KRON4 News reported the accident at about 11:27 p.m..
Meanwhile, the Honda went south on the east shoulder and over a concrete K-rail barrier into the Lichau Creek. Medical personnel took Matsler-David to Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries.
Authorities soon arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. They booked the suspect into the Sonoma County Jail.
