Jack Davis, Linda Davis Killed in Car Accident
SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2023) — Australian racecar driver, Luke Nardini, 31, faces two counts of vehicular manslaughter following a fatal wrong-way crash Friday on Highway 84 in La Honda.
Jack Davis, and his wife for 60 years, Linda Davis, died in the two-vehicle collision around 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1st, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
The suspect was allegedly driving a BMW M4 when he came upon a road closure in the eastbound lane. He reportedly crossed over into the westbound lane of Highway 84 and collided with a Ford Taurus. The Ford was occupied by four people including the elderly La Honda couple.
Jack Davis, 80, died at the scene and Linda Davis, 80, died at the hospital shortly after the crash. Also, the front-seat passenger in the Ford suffered a concussion and the driver went to the hospital as a precaution. Additionally, the alleged wrong-way driver was hospitalized with a broken back.
Luke Nardini Trial Scheduled for Nov. 17
The Australian man in the BMW told authorities he forgot to move back into the eastbound lanes after passing a road closure. Australians drive on the left-hand side of the roadway. He traveled nearly two miles on the winding roadway in the wrong lane before hitting the other vehicle at a curve in the roadway. The speed limit in this area is 45 mph.
Luke Nardini is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Tuesday at the Hall of Justice in Redwood City. Meanwhile, he is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 11 and trial is set to begin on Nov. 17.
