2 Killed Sea World Drive Crash in San Diego’s Mission Bay
MISSION BAY, Calif. (April 23, 2021) — Ava Bender, 18, died in a solo-vehicle collision Wednesday night on Sea World Drive in San Diego.
She was one of two teenagers who died when the 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck they were riding in slammed into a pole ear SeaWorld.
The fatal crash happened about 9:25 p.m. on April 21st on Sea World Drive in front of the marine amusement park, San Diego officials said.
Police believe the driver was speeding when the truck crashed into a large metal sign post before also hitting a street light.
Driver, Passenger Both Killed in Mission Bay Crash
Both the driver and his passenger, Ava Bender, of San Diego, became trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to pry open the vehicle, but sadly the teens died before they could get medical attention.
The San Diego Medical Examiner identified both young people on their website.
The crash remains under investigation by the San Diego Police Department.
