Penske Truck Overturns in Crash with SUV and Car in San Mateo
SAN MATEO, Calif. (June 24, 2024) — A yellow Penske box truck overturned Monday in a crash with two cars on the northbound US 101 Freeway at the 3rd Avenue exit in San Mateo.
The three-vehicle collision occurred at around 3:42 a.m. on June 24th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the 30-foot box truck, loaded with 16,000 pounds of avocados, was overturned onto its side. It’s unknown what led up to the truck colliding with the drivers of a black Acura sedan and a gray BMW SUV.
However, one of the cars wound up facing the wrong way on the right shoulder of the freeway. Also, the Acura had major front-end damage and the BMW had major side damage from the accident.
Paramedics responded to help at least one person reporting minor injuries, but there are no further details at this time.
All three vehicles required tow trucks to remove them from the freeway.
Police issued a SigAlert for the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the northbound US 101 at around 3:55 a.m. due to traffic lanes being blocked by vehicles.
