Deadly Truck Accident in San Bernardino County
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (July 18, 2023) — A backhoe loader fell off a semi-truck and landed on a car in a fatal accident on the National Trails Highway at Polish Lane, just north of Victorville.
The deadly accident occurred around 7:18 a.m. on July 18th at the railroad bridge near the entrance to the CalPortland Oro Grande Aggregate Plant, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.

The semi-truck was carrying a large front-loader with a backhoe on a trailer when the truck collided with the bridge and the backhoe fell off and landed on top of a green and tan Ford Crown Victoria sedan. The car continued traveling forward and collided with a tree near an apartment complex.
A man was trapped in the car and died at the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner will release the victim’s name after relatives are notified.
The Victorville Fire Department assisted a second person from the car. The woman had major injuries to one arm and her back. Paramedics transported the woman by ground ambulance to Victor Valley Global Medical Center. She was then taken by air ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
Tow trucks responded for the damaged vehicles and authorities are inspecting the bridge to determine if it’s safe for trains to travel on it.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine if there are any criminal charges.
