BAKERSFIELD, California (March 13, 2017) – Abel Valenzuela, 68, has been identified as the man who was killed in a collision where two others were injured Monday at 24th and Alder streets, according to Bakersfield Now.
The accident involving an ambulance and a large semi-truck with an attached trailer took place just before 11 a.m.
As per the article, Bakersfield police said the truck was apparently headed east on 24th Street preparing to make a northbound turn on to Alder Street when at the same time a Tri-County Medical Transport van was traveling in the same direction.
The van then struck the rear of the truck causing the large steel poles to detached from the trailer and impale the victim being transported to the hospital, Valenzuela. He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police affirmed that two other people were taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The names of the injured parties were not released.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-truck was unharmed. The incident remains under investigation.
