BAKERSFIELD, California (July 1, 2015) — Two people were trapped in a car early Wednesday morning that veered off the Kern Canyon Road Highway 178 and into an embankment on the Kern River where it ignited a brush fire, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash was reported at 4:45 a.m., just east of Mouth of the Canyon. Paramedics responded to extricate the two people who were trapped in the vehicle about 70 feet off the freeway. The two people were transported to Kern County Medical Center for further treatment of minor injuries.
Caltrans closed down the roadway to the canyon at both ends due to the brush fire and brought in fire equipment to extinguish it.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
