The incident took place sometime before 9:00 a.m.
A witness disclosed to Bakersfield police that the sheriff was confirmed to have ran a red light as he was clearly distracted and not paying attention before plowing into a white sedan driven by a woman.
The woman and sole occupant inside the sedan was moderately injured and taken away to a hospital by ambulance.
The intersection remained shut down for a good portion of Tuesday morning while Bakersfield PD perused the scene.
