Child, 2, Seriously Injured in Bakersfield Crash at King and Niles Streets
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 2, 2023) – Several were injured, including a child, after a crash at King and Niles streets in east Bakersfield.
According to the Bakersfield Now and Kern Golden Empire, the accident took place on Sunday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck on April 2 at around 12:30 p.m.
The incident happened when a sedan was going west on Niles Street in Bakersfield. At the same time, a pickup truck stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection with King Street.
Police said the pickup truck then crossed Niles and collided with the sedan in the intersection. The truck rolled multiple times and landed on the south sidewalk on Niles.
Several Others Hurt in Wreck
The other car slammed into a utility pole at its base. Firefighters soon arrived at the scene and found several people hurt upon impact.
One of the victims, a 2-year-old baby in a forward-facing child safety seat inside the sedan, ended up suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics rushed the toddler to a hospital for treatment. Medical personnel provided aid to the other drivers and passengers involved for the minor injuries they sustained in the incident.
The reports did not disclose the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, police forced the corner of King and Niles streets to shut down for hours following the wreck.
The cause of the Bakersfield crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the BPD at 661-327-7111.
