Child Injured in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Near Monterey Street and Fairfax Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 14, 2021) – A child was injured after a hit-and-run crash near Monterey Street and Fairfax Road in Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch team, the accident took place on Friday afternoon. Officers reported the incident at about 1:08 p.m.

CHP said a vehicle struck a 10-year-old child riding a bicycle for an unknown reason in Bakersfield. The driver hit the juvenile near the intersection of Monterey Street and Fairfax Road.

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene in the 4700 block of Monterey. They found the young bicyclist left suffering from injuries to his foot as a result of the collision.

Medical personnel then provided treatment to the patient at the crash site. Officials did not release the condition of the wounded cyclist at this time.

Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist did not stop to help the child and fled northbound on Fairfax. They described the car as a red sedan.

The cause of the Bakersfield hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
