Woman Passenger in SUV Killed in Crash with Big Rig Truck
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2019) — A woman traveling as a passenger in an SUV died Thursday night when the BMW crashed into a semi-tractor trailer truck that was making a turn onto Highway 178.
The crash took place about 5:35 p.m on Highway 178 at Rancheria Road.
Police say the woman was riding in a green BMW Suv that was heading westbound on Highway 178. The truck reportedly pulled out in front of the SUV onto Hwy 178 from Rancheria Road. The BMW’s driver was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, but at this time it’s unclear if they were speeding.
The woman died of her injuries at the scene and the driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. There were no reported injuries to the truck driver.
The truck driver stopped and is cooperating with the police investigation into liability for the crash. It appears based on preliminary information released by police that the BMW had the right-of-way, but the driver’s speed could be a factor in the crash and both drivers could share liability. The police report, when it is released, will provide an in-depth analysis of the facts and determine the cause of the crash.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Bakersfield police at 327-7111.
