Man Killed in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run at Chester Avenue and Columbus Street
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 25, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian at Chester Avenue and Columbus Street in Bakersfield.
According to the Kern Golden Empire and 23 ABC News, the tragic accident occurred on Wednesday night. Officers reported the crash at around 8:30 p.m.
The incident happened on February 24 when two vehicles were involved in a street race. Bakersfield police said the cars were at the stoplight at Chester Avenue and Columbus Street.
As the light turned green, the two accelerated. One of the drivers involved struck a male pedestrian crossing Chester Avenue at the time.

Firefighters along with the paramedics then responded to the scene. They found the man left lying on the ground as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed him to the hospital, however, he died on the way. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that both motorists did not stop to render aid to the victim and soon fled the area. Officials closed Chester and Columbus for a time following the Bakersfield hit-and-run crash.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information can call the BPD at 327-7111.
