1 Killed, 2 Injured in Bakersfield Street Racing Crash on Panama Lane
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 2, 2022) – A street racing crash killed one person and injured two others on Panama Lane in Bakersfield.
According to the Kern Golden Empire and 23 ABC News, the tragic accident took place on Wednesday evening. Officers reported the wreck at around 6:20 p.m.
Bakersfield police said the incident began when a driver of Ford Mustang was involved in a street race with a motorcycle on Panama Lane.
The driver of the Mustang lost control and then crossed into westbound traffic. In the process, the car slammed head-on into another vehicle, just west of Akers Road.
Street Racer Hits Another Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They confirmed that the 19-year-old woman driving the second car died as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed her passenger to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, the Mustang caught fire and left the motorist hurt. Police soon arrested him for murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and street racing.
They added that the motorcyclist did not stop to help and fled the area. Officers forced a stretch of Panama Lane to shut down for hours following the wreck.
