Man Critically Injured in Suspected DUI Crash Highway 119
BAKERSFIELD (July 16, 2017) – Three people were injured, one critically, in a head-on collision Sunday morning on Taft Highway, also known as Highway 119, according to The Bakersfield Californian.
The accident involving two vehicles was reported about 10:15 a.m. near Stine Road.
In an article by 23 ABC News, California Highway Patrol said a Nissan Altima was going east on Taft Highway when for an unknown reason it collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet pickup truck.
The motorist in the Nissan, a Hispanic male, was allegedly weaving in and out of the lane when he veered into the westbound traffic.
CHP affirmed that the driver of the pickup truck was flown to a local hospital with injuries described as major. His condition remains unknown.
Meanwhile, the two adult occupants of the Nissan were also hospitalized with minor to moderate injuries. The names of the parties involved have not been yet disclosed.
Alcohol was believed to be a factor for the man driving the Nissan. Highway 119 was forced to shut down as authorities continued their investigation.
If the investigation proves that the driver of the Nissan Altima was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, then the motorist of the pickup truck will have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party.
The consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol are evidently severe.
