Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Crash Highway 99 Near Merle Haggard Drive

BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 11, 2022) – At least one was injured after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 99 near Merle Haggard Drive in Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch team, the accident took place early Tuesday. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:11 a.m.

The incident began when a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed north on Highway 99 in Bakersfield. CHP said in the process, the driver slammed into a black Nissan Altima.

Speeding Driver Hits Victim, Flees Scene

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene, just north of Merle Haggard Drive. They found an occupant of the Nissan who complained of pain as a result of the collision.

Medical personnel provided treatment to the victim for the unknown injuries they sustained in the wreck. The report did not release the name of the wounded patient and their condition at this time.

Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the speeding motorist did not stop to help and then fled the area. They described the vehicle as possibly a Dodge Caravan.

Officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 99 to shut down near Merle following the wreck. The Bakersfield hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
