Male Pedestrian Killed in Crash at Oildale Intersection

KERN COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2024) — A driver struck and killed a male pedestrian riding a bike Tuesday night in a car accident in the Oildale part of Bakersfield at Airport Drive and Washington Avenue.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:33 p.m. on Dec. 10th, at the Oildale intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness told authorities the pedestrian was crossing the roadway when he fell down and was trying to get up when the northbound car struck him in the number two lane, police told KGET.

CHP officials reported the driver of the black Honda Accord stopped and someone called for help.

Paramedics responded but were unable to help the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s name will be released by the Kern County Sheriff-Coroner.

Meanwhile, the northbound traffic lanes were blocked at Lincoln and traffic was diverted to eastbound Lincoln.

“This is an ongoing problem in the Bakersfield area,” said Attorney James Johnson. “There have been several pedestrian fatalities at this same part of Airport Drive including one back in June.”
