
Man Struck, Killed at Bakersfield Intersection
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (August 27, 2024) — An unidentified man was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident Saturday night while crossing South Union Avenue in Bakersfield.
A driver was reportedly making a turn at 8:40 p.m. on August 24th and struck the victim crossing near the intersection in the 6500 block of S. Union Ave., according to the Bakersfield Now and Bakersfield Police Department.
The man suffered severe injuries and was transported to a hospital where he later died.
The driver of the white Honda SUV had been headed southbound on South Union Avenue when the person turned towards Panama Lane on a green traffic signal, police said.
Authorities investigating the crash stated the pedestrian was traveling in a westbound direction across the the southbound lanes at the time of the deadly crash. Unfortunately, the man later died from his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and was cooperated with police and the investigation.
Preliminary results of that investigation indicate the driver was not speeding or impaired.
