BAKERSFIELD, California (March 31, 2017) – A fatal hit-and-run accident occurred in the area of Niles and Virginia streets late Friday night, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch team.
CHP first logged the incident when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Niles Street, just east of Virginia. The crash took place about 10:30 p.m.
As per the report, paramedics responded to the scene and attended to the pedestrian who was found down in the roadway after being hit. A report by Bakersfield Now said the victim, a 60-year-old man, was taken to Kern Medical Center where he died Saturday.
The name of the deceased has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the dispatch mentioned that the driver involved apparently fled the scene and was last seen going east on Niles Street. The car was described as a light colored SUV, possibly white or light gray, with damage to its front-end and headlight.
The accident remains under investigation.
