Bakersfield Teen Killed in Suspected DUI Crash on Union Avenue

Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision on Union Avenue South of Panorama Drive
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (August 12, 2025) — An innocent 16-year-old Bakersfield girl, identified as Juana Jasmine Orozco Guerrero, was killed Sunday evening in a crash on Union Avenue that police believe involved excessive speed and drug use.
The Bakersfield Police Department said the August 10th collision happened in the 4400 block of Union Avenue around 6 p.m., between Columbus Street and Monte Vista Drive. Investigators determined that a Jeep Patriot traveling west on Panorama crossed into the northbound lane of Union Avenue, striking a Hyundai Elantra. The teenage passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene.
Authorities suspect speed and drug intoxication are contributing factors in the crash.
Meanwhile, the Hyundai driver and two other passengers were all transported to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Driver Suspected of DUI Faces Murder Charges
Jaime Oceguera, 35, who was driving the Jeep, was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Police are expected to arrest Oceguera once he is medically cleared. He faces charges including suspicion of murder, driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, and driving the wrong way causing death, officials said.
Bakersfield police are investigating the crash and asking witnesses to call them at (661) 327-7111.
The death has renewed calls for heightened driver awareness and stronger measures to address reckless driving in Bakersfield.
