CHP Officer Injured in Car Crash on Highway 163 Near 5 Freeway
BALBOA PARK, San Diego County (May 24, 2018) – A California Highway Patrol officer was injured in a traffic collision on Highway 163 Thursday, according to ABC News.
The accident was reported at 4:44 p.m. today.
As per the article, the officer was driving south on the highway approaching Interstate 5 Freeway when he saw a pedestrian on the right shoulder. The CHP officer then slowed his patrol vehicle to make contact.

For reasons still under investigation, the patrol car was struck by a vehicle.
Primary reports indicated the officer was disoriented following the collision. The victim was taken to Sharp Hospital as a precaution. At this time, the name of the patient and his condition have not been disclosed thus far.
Meanwhile, no immediate information was released on the identity of the other motorist, and the pedestrian involved.
Authorities shut down one lane of south 163 to give way to the investigation.
