Woman, 78, Seriously Injured in Balboa Park Crash on Florida Drive
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 8, 2022) – A woman was seriously injured after a DUI crash on Florida Drive in the Balboa Park neighborhood.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident took place on Friday evening. Officers reported the wreck at about 6:50 p.m.
The incident happened on October 7 when a Chevrolet Cruze was going north on Florida Drive in Balboa Park. At the same time, a Nissan Altima was traveling south.
San Diego police said the Chevrolet crossed into the southbound lane and then slammed into the Nissan. The two cars crashed head-on near Zoo Place.
DUI Driver Hits Another Car
The passenger of the Nissan, a 78-year-old woman, sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital for treatment of an open left wrist fracture.
Medical personnel evaluated the driver of the same car, a 57-year-old woman, for possible minor head injury. The report did not disclose the names of the wounded victims and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old woman driving the Cruze survived the incident with minor injuries. Police determined she was under the influence when she hit the other car.
Officers forced a stretch of Florida Drive to shut down following the wreck. The Balboa Park DUI crash is still under investigation.
